The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment.

The Big Read Lynchburg is hosted by Amazement Square, The Rightmire Children’s Museum in partnership with the Lynchburg College Library, in order to encourage the Lynchburg community to make reading a part of daily life. Research shows that people who read regularly are more likely to attend arts and sports events, to volunteer, and are generally more engaged citizens. At the same time, research has also shown that fewer and fewer people of all ages and backgrounds are choosing to read for fun. With this in mind, The Big Read Lynchburg promises to be a community-wide all-encompassing reading event, designed to get our community back to books. |
